Horseman's Head Melt

Dr. Berringer, by all accounts, was anything but an ordinary doctor. Ostracized by the locals and demonized by the academic community for his unorthodox research methods, he and his family were forced to live in isolation. His wife, unable to bear the humiliation, took her own life which resulted in Berringer’s spiral into the world of the occult.

Over the years he accumulated what is said to be one of the largest collections of curiosities ever recorded. One such artifact is rumored to be the head of the Dullahan, more commonly known as the Headless Horseman.

According to Berringer’s notes, the head in question was a bright orange gourd that for 364 days out of the year was indiscernible from any other gourd. But from sundown to sunrise each Hallows Eve a deep red flame would ignite in its core and reveal the host within.

Berringer believed this flame held the key to unlocking the barrier between the world of the living and the damned and could somehow be harnessed to bring the dead back to life. His great-grandson, who is now the curator of his collection, has never found the head. However, every Hallows Eve the mansion fills with the smell of pumpkin and cinders, a scent that has become synonymous with the celebration of the dead.
